PROTECTING & ENJOYING Lake Lillinonah SINCE 2003
Posted: July 30, 2020
Dear Friends of the Lake:
An article (which can be found in our resource library) appeared in the Danbury News-Times last Wednesday, July 8, after executive board member George Walker contacted Katrina Koerting with photos and descriptions of the mess we encountered during the days leading up to the July 4th weekend. Ms. Koerting also contacted board member Scott Conant, who provided pictures, video and comments.
We understand the requirement of FirstLight Power to perform semiannual ‘audits’ of the power generating capability of the Shepaug facility. We also understand that they are required to maintain the recreational viability of the lake. As you know, we have been requesting for years that they either keep the lake lower during the boating season, or obtain equipment with enough capacity to remove debris so that the lake is not compromised when they must raise the lake for these audits or for normal operations.
We are in the process of contacting our local representatives, FirstLight Power and the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission about the massive debris fields we experienced last week and our continuing frustration with the debris situation. If you have any photos, videos or descriptions of problems you encountered, please forward them at your earliest convenience to ‘info@FriendsoftheLake.org.’
